Dregan Parasca

I'm looking for a niche to place Dregan in. Medieval fantasy is preferred but I can stretch to Early Victorian, nothing modern.

His profile and backstory need to be fleshed out but I feel I can only achieve that when I start writing, and I also plan on building a world around him. It would be interesting to write more about his family, his roots, and the culture and history of the people.

His abilities are the classic sapping life out of the living during the night or feeding on their blood not always sinking his fangs into their necks. He can be out during the day when it's overcast, bright sunlight will begin to blister his flesh, similar to suffering extreme sunburn.

His strengths and weaknesses are what I need to elaborate on more. The conventional and common are not what I'm looking for, it's not original. I would like to world build a different approach to his weaknesses and I've noticed different cultures have different lore on vampires. So things like silver, garlic and holy water wouldn't affect him. He is alive, he's not a true undead, yet. If he experiences death and there is no severe damage to his hearts or brain then he will become a Strigoi.

His heart still beats, blood courses through his veins and he hungers and thirsts as any mortal. However, he savours the night and the taste of another's blood.

He has two hearts. You don't become a Moroi vampire in the same sense other vampires are made. It takes the giving of a special gift from a Strigoi. That is what gives him his unnatural abilities and induces him to feed as a vampire. If he is killed without damage to the brain or hearts, it will resurrect him again but as a Strigoi.

His maternal family were peasants, their name and their faces faded and forgotten. His 'blood' father is Andrei Văduva Parasca, a noble Strigoi who lives in seclusion.

He will never age, not even in his next form if he so happens to be killed.

Swift regeneration. Flesh wounds won't place him at any serious risk. His flesh heals abnormally quickly if there hasn't been any damage to the brain or hearts.

Blink attack. With swift agility, he can place himself behind a victim from a10 meter range.

Acute senses develop over time. More responsive indoors, rain often dampens his perception when he's outside.

Dominance. Influencing the weaker mind.

In progress. The not so classic vampire. Nearly every culture has its own version of the vampire.

The Moroi vampire, an unusual kind not like what one would expect in regard to what we believe about vampires but there are many myths obscuring the truth. Myths are dreamed up by those who fear them the most, humans.

The Moroi can only be made by a Strigoi vampire. He or she doesn't need to be killed and resurrected. The Strigoi brings his victim to the point of death before they transplant a piece of their withered heart into the chest, allowing it to absorb part of the youth’s blood and start pumping, turning the person into a Moroi.

Only young people of a certain age with red hair can become a Moroi. A child born out of wedlock, a birth caul clinging to their head, and fully grown teeth and fingernails. They are observed with suspicion by other villagers and it is often they leave home when they come of age, traveling to any destination where they are not known. This is the time they encounter a Strogoi and so become a Moroi.

They are not affected by the usual repellents like garlic, crucifixes, and holy water. They are not dead and so will not crumble into dust or combust. They can be killed like any human but their abilities have made this difficult to accomplish but not impossible.

If he ever succumbs to death then the Strigoi heart will devour his human heart granting him another life and he will become a Strigoi. The longer he lives as a Moroi the more powerful Strigoi he will become.

Nideth. A primitive deity believed to have been the first vampire. The Terrifying One. Depicted as a spider.

The Moroi and Strigoi are appropriately symbolized by the spider. Historically there were no vampire bats in Europe and the connection between vampires and vampire bats was in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.
